When is the best time to work out? is a common question asked by many gym goers, even beginners. Is working out in the morning or at night preferable? Sincere to say, there isn't a universal solution to these issues. Depending on their schedule, lifestyle, and physical condition, their fitness trainers recommend the best time.


Everyone has various demands and a different amount of time. While some people prefer to exercise in the evenings or at night, others are morning people who prefer to get up with or before the sun and work out at the gym or go for a run. But a 2020 study found that regular morning exercise might help those who struggle with obesity, as reported in the journal Exercise and Sport Science Reviews.


When is the best time to exercise? People asked Suresh Srinivasan, a Certified Marathon Trainer ACSM, Run for Resilience Coach. Though, according to Srinivasan, choosing when to exercise is a question of convenience is more accurate.


However, it is impossible to deny that exercising in the morning has a number of potential advantages. Knowing the benefits of working out first thing in the morning will help you adjust your mentality and make it easier for you if you struggle to stick to a daily habit.


Advantages of early morning exercise;


  1. You run from the heat:- It is recommended to workout in the morning around 5 or 6 am when the weather is typically cooler and more comfortable. In the summer, the warmest part of the day starts at 8 am, and in the winter, it starts around 10 am. So, Srinivasan advises, "Early morning is the best pick to beat the heat, especially if you love to run or work out outdoors."

  2. You have more energy:- According to research published in the Journal of Physiology in 2019, exercising in the morning boosts alertness because cortisol, the stress hormone, is at its lowest concentration. According to the study, stress hormone levels rise after 8 am and then drop again in the evening. One may remain alert and intellectually sharp throughout the entire day because the cortisol level is lower in the morning.

  3. You make healthier choices for food:- In a 2018 study that was referenced in the International Journal of Obesity, the eating habits of 2680 young adults were examined over the course of a 15-week programme. It was shown that morning exercises for 30 minutes reduced frequent snacking and encouraged the consumption of healthier foods.

  4. You're more focused:- According to a 2019 study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, morning exercise helps with focus, energy, concentration, and attention throughout the day. The body receives greater oxygen delivery and positive neuron pathways are stimulated during a morning workout, which keeps you more alert and focused, according to Srinivasan.

  5. You have more restful sleep:- Morning workouts can reset the body's molecular circadian clock, which governs changes in mood, activity, and behaviour throughout the day. Melatonin levels, which are regulated by light exposure, have an impact on circadian rhythm. As stated in Scientific Reports, 2020, exercising in the morning exposes your body to sunshine, which has a crucial part in selecting when to go to bed and whether or not you have persistently disturbed sleep patterns.
