AAP defeats BJP to win the MCD elections🤯🤯

By surpassing the majority threshold, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) defeated the BJP to win the MCD elections. A party must win 126 of the MCD's 250 wards in order to win.

Results released by the State Election Commission (SEC) for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) polls on Wednesday reveal that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won the MCD elections, crossing the halfway point with 131 seats at 2.10 pm. A party requires 126 votes to win out of the 250 wards in the MCD.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which has so far won 99 seats, defied the trend that exit polls had indicated. The party did not appear to win more than 91 seats in any exit poll.

Over seven seats have been claimed by the Congress. It's interesting to note that the AAP won three of these wards in 2017 while the BJP won one. Shakeela Begum, an independent, won the Seelampur seat; Meena Devi and Gajender Singh Daral, respectively, won the Isapur and Mundka.

The MCD was reunified earlier this year, and this was the first election since then. Only 50.48% of the 1.45 crore eligible voters who were present at the polls on December 4 cast their ballots, or barely over 73 lakh persons.

According to data provided by the Delhi State Election Commission, South Delhi's affluent neighbourhoods had the lowest voter turnout in the municipal elections. The areas of Northeast Delhi and rural areas that experienced rioting in 2020 had the highest voting rates.
